Treibball, pronounced “try-ball” is a competitive dog sport that originated in Germany. It’s often referred to as “urban herding” because it simulates herding, but instead of livestock, dogs herd inflatable balls into a goal.

The goal of Treibball is for a dog to gather and drive a set number of balls into a designated goal area. The handler guides the dog from the goal area using verbal cues and hand signals.

Variations in number of balls, distance handling patterns and obstacles provide variation and challenge at different levels of the sport.

Anyone who wants a fun and challenging outlet for their dog!

While herding breeds may have a natural inclination, any dog breed, size, and age can learn and excel at Treibball. It’s low-impact and adaptable for any age, breed or ability.

Treibball provides a fantastic outlet for a dog’s intelligence and energy. It’s a “thinking sport” that challenges dogs to problem-solve, strategize, and follow complex commands. It also offers good physical exercise.

The sport heavily relies on clear communication, teamwork, and trust between the dog and handler, building a strong bond and strengthening a number of key life skills including impulse control, confidence and focus.

UK Treibball was recently founded by Alex Gosney who has over 25 years of experience in training and rehabilitating both dogs and horses.

Alex has spent several years immersing herself in the exciting world of Treibball. She’s had the privilege of training with some of Europe’s top Treibball trainers in Germany – the birthplace of the sport – and has gone on to compete and judge at international Treibball tournaments.

She is now on a mission to bring the sport of Treibball to the UK, and Sussex Treibball is proud to be training and working with her to make this a reality in our area. We are starting with two workshops in August, followed by regular classes starting Autumn/Winter 2025.

Hi, i’m Becky and this is my springer spaniel Holly.

I’m a Veterinary Nurse and Dog Trainer with 12 years experience working with dogs. This mixed skillset allows me to assess training and behaviour needs with a holistic view including health and welfare.

I started teaching as Paws up! training in 2022 and have developed a particular passion for working breeds and helping their owners build fulfilled, calm and confident lives for their dogs. Treibball fits this ethos perfectly so when given the chance to work with Alex and bring Treibball not only to my clients but all local dog lovers, I jumped at it.
